Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says the ASX 200 took a “big leg down” on Wednesday, falling 1.30 per cent, with the expectation that rate cuts are “on hold for the foreseeable future”.

Gold miners Resolute and Westgold were both up more than five per cent as gold picked up above $US2,350 an ounce overnight.

The worst performers included Fortescue Metals, which fell 3.55 per cent; gaming machine maker Aristocrat, which slipped 2.99 per cent; and Insurance Australia Group, which was down 3.12 per cent.
