The flamboyant darts of mother nature, The Bee Eaters live a colorful and swift life as they dive among the trees of mother nature, feeding on bee's & other similar insects, as they catch them with their sharp beaks, mid air. It's a magical sight to see such birds show off their commands as swift hunters and yet beautifully colored birds. Sri Lanka is home to four types of Bee Eaters. Out of the four this video records The Chestnut headed Bee eater & The Green Bee eater. The specialty of these birds are that, Bee eaters are specialized at catching their prey mid air.

BIRDS OF SRI LANKA | THE CHESTNUT HEADED BEE EATER (තඹල-හිස බිඟුහරයා) - (Merops leschenaulti)

The Chestnut headed Bee eater is comparatively rarer to spot as it seems to be quite picky in choosing it's territory. I often find them to be the harder Bee eater to spot. There may be some science backing up the territorial likings of the bird but to me, it's just poor timing as this bird has not been a common find for me. She is a beautiful bird with a brightly colored head and an eye catching blend through out the body. These vibrant colors make this medium sized bird stand out from the Green Bee eater when out in the wild.

BIRDS OF SRI LANKA | THE GREEN BEE EATER (කොළ කුරුමිණි කුරුල්ලා / පුංචි බිඟුහරයා / හරිත බිඟුහරයා) - (Merops orientalis)

The Green Bee eater is probably the easiest and the most commonly spotted bird within a National Park. They are often seen in pairs or more. This type of Bee eater also happens to be the smallest of the four types of Bee eaters found within the island.
