Range Rover P38 # 083 - FIP Top Gasket

The day after my long road trip I discovered a leak from the engine bay on the black P38. Sure enough, another diesel leak. What is it this time then? Last time the return lines from the injectors popped off the injector pump.

We'll have a go at fixing this new leak in this video.

You'll need a speciality tool, a 7 mm triangular socket found in for instance the Neilsen CT4130 tool set.

The FIP (Fuel Injector Pump) top gasket, along with a complete gasket set for the entire fuel pump is found in Bosch repair set with part number 2 467 010 003. This fits all 4- and 6-cylinder pumps used in many diesel applications from Audi, BMW, Land Rover and Volkswagen to mention a few.

For fuel return lines I got about 60 cm / 24" of 3.2mm (1/8") ID braided hose.

Fuel injector pump temperature sensor part number is 2 464 509 015

While doing a pump repair you should consider a few other items that is easily done while the intake manifold is off as well:

- Alternator or alternator brushes (see video 42    • Range Rover P38 # 042 - Alternator, F...   ).
- Power steering repairs.
- Engine temperature sensors (3 of them, front front: NSC100820 / STC2299 / STC2254 with AC)
- Glow plugs (6 of STC3103).
- Injector work, for instance seals etc.
- Replace or repair injector 4 needle sensor or wiring.
- Coolant hoses (radiator left and heater core hose on rear of engine).

PCH000030 Rear hose to heater matrix (late 1999 or newer)
PCH116070 Rear hose to heater matrix (pre 1999)
- Water pump (STC3342)
- Cam cover gasket (see video 41    • Range Rover P38 # 041 - Cam Cover Gas...   ).
- Intake gaskets (6 either paper or rubber o-rings depending on year):
Late 1999 or newer, STC4137
Older use STC2203
- Vacuum hoses (4 mm)
- Fuel return hoses (3.2 mm 1/8" ID)
- Clean the EGR valve (later 1999 or newer only).
- Fuel filter (STC2827).
- Brake lines or ABS work.

Note! Above part numbers are for diesel engine.
