In this episode of our 50 States Challenge, we travel to Charleston, South Carolina—our very first adventure in the real South! Over three weeks, we explored this cute but complex Southern city, painting two run ups with the help of local artist REESE DESIGNS.

Our first mural, 'Bless Your Heart,' was painted on Main Street in Downtown Charleston. Little did we know, the phrase can carry a hint of sarcasm in Southern culture! For our second mural, 'Create a Better World,' we depicted children of different races learning and creating together. Inspired by the visible segregation we witnessed, this piece aimed to bring people together. Locals loved our work and embraced the message.

We also had the opportunity to teach mural painting at Fort Dorchester High School, helping students create an inspiring hallway mural. From savoring the best soul food at East Side Soul Food to collaborating with talented artists and students, Charleston left an incredible mark on our journey, and was a fantastic start to our Southern adventures.
