Social media platform Bluesky has ten million users

Social media platform Bluesky has reached the milestone of ten million users. It is not clear how many of these users are active monthly. Earlier this month, it was announced that Bluesky had attracted one million new members in three days.

Bluesky shared the news via a post on its own platform. The organization also announced the event in Portuguese. This could point to a recent increase in the number of Brazilian users. The platform announced in early September that one million new users had been added in a few days, including many Brazilian internet users. This increase was probably caused by the fact that the Brazilian Supreme Court blocked access to social media platform X at the end of August, because X had failed to appoint a legal representative in the country in time.

Bluesky was founded in 2019 by, among others, Jack Dorsey, one of the founders of Twitter. The platform was initially a division of Twitter and was tasked with developing a decentralized standard for social media. Since early 2022, Bluesky has been a separate platform. In July 2023, the platform reached one million users for the first time, and four months later it reached two million users. In early September, the platform reportedly had 6.6 million users.
