Onam is the biggest festival of Kerala, celebrated to honor the homecoming of King Mahabali, whose reign was considered a golden era of prosperity, equality, and happiness. According to legend, Lord Vishnu, in his Vamana avatar, granted Mahabali permission to visit his people once every year — and this joyous return is marked as Onam. The festival is known for its grand feasts (Onam Sadhya), vibrant Pookalam (floral designs), Vallam Kali (snake boat races), and traditional dances, bringing together people of all communities to celebrate unity and abundance.
