An abandoned baby grackle, in urgent need of food, warmth, and shelter, was brought to me on the evening of May 22. While I always recommend putting the bird back in the nest, so that the adult birds will raise it properly, it was not an option in this case: no nest, no adult birds, plummeting nighttime temperatures approaching, and this nestling had been screaming for food all day long, with no assistance from other birds.
