Here's how to get Infinite Lives in Batman Returns. At the title screen, press: Up, Up, Up, Down, Right, Left, and the '2' button. A chime should sound, indicating a correct code has been entered. Start the game, select ever route (difficulty), and play as normal. You'll start off with three lives, but the counter never goes down. A strange quirk is you can add to your lives counter by collecting any of the many 1-Ups in the game.

I have no idea why stationary vehicles in this game instant-kills Batman either...
