Part 1 of a NEW build motorcycle series!

Ok so I've been wanting to make one of these for a long time now. Yes, a Cafe Racer isn't the most novel of idea, you know taking a vintage bike, stripping it down, throwing on some modern parts and breathing new life into it. These were more popular about 3-4 years ago, but I've been wanting to make one for about 5 years. I would always check craigslist nearby and I hardly ever saw these available, and then one day I saw one for very cheap and I just had to get it.

What is it? A 1982 Yamaha XV920 "Virago". Usually guys will do the 750cc version, but I think the 920 is unique, plus it was the one available!

I don't know much about the bike, or any vintage bikes really. The guy I bought it from said it was running before there was an issue with the starter and he never got around to fixing it.

This bike came from the factory with 2 carburetors but this had been modded to a single carb. I don't really know anything about carbs, so this project is going to be a challenge for me.

In this episode we try our best to sort out what works and what doesn't, in the hopes of getting it to make some noise and at least pop or sputter. I clean the carb, replace the battery, isolate some wiring issues (very few actually) and finally get roadblocked by the starter itself!

I'm debating not even going through with this project if the engine is toast, so a lot is riding on this initial investigation. I don't know if I want to dump the time and money into completely rebuilding the engine from scratch, so hopefully it's not far gone - I have faith that it's ok though.

I've waiting 5 years for this project to come to fruition and finally it is here!

920CC's of pure V-twin thumping power! You can't beat the sound and feel of a twin.

3. The Mods
We're going to be doing many mods throughout this project, the bike will not look much like it does in stock form here. Custom tank mods, front end, rear end, seat, electronics, suspension, lighting, exhaust. Just about everything will be modified except for the frame and engine!
