Ace Rusevski - René Weller — European Boxing Championship 1977 (semi-finals)

The 1977 European Boxing Championship took place in the city of Halle, German Democratic Republic (East Germany)

Ace Rusevski is a former Macedonian and Yugoslav boxer who won bronze at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Rusevski triumphed at the 1977 championship in Halle becoming champion of Europe at lightweight and claiming the best boxer of the tournament award. He later turned pro and fought out of Paris where, legend has it, he was Jean-Paul Belmondo's favourite fighter.

René Weller was a former German professional boxer who won 49 out of his 52 bouts as pro. He won silver at the 1979 European Boxing Championship in Cologne. During and after his professional boxing career, Weller was a superstar in Germany, leading an extravagant lifestyle and appearing in several films. René Weller passed away on 22. August 2023 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer's disease.
