After a break, Lenovo's X1 Carbon returns to the top of the best business laptops list. The dismal battery life of 2022 is gone, and it's back at the top, providing lots of endurance and power in a lightweight design. The X1 Carbon weighs only 2.6 pounds and has a thickness of about 0.6 inches, so it won't overload your laptop bag when commuting or traveling. It's also MIL-SPEC tested, which means it can withstand any bumps or drops along the route. Given that security is a high priority for many business customers, it has a fingerprint reader and a TPM 2.0 chip for encrypting critical information. And when it's time to go to work, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon has plenty of ports, eliminating the need for a USB-C hub in your bag. Creatives would like a more colorful display, but the 14-inch panel is plenty bright, which is more important for business users. The world-renowned keyboard is as pleasant as we have come to expect. And for the battery life, it lasted 13 hours and 45 minutes on our battery test, and in our benchmarks, it easily outperformed our premium laptop norms.
The ThinkBook 14s Yoga is an incredible value at under $1,000 for a robust 2-in-1 with a built-in Smart Pen, good performance, and long battery life. It won't double as a gaming laptop, but it's more than capable of handling any productivity task you can throw at it. With just minutes of 10 hours of battery life, it should be enough to carry you through a full workday. The integrated Smart Pen, with its accessible silo in the ThinkBook chassis, is an excellent addition if you ever need to sketch, take handwritten notes, or even sign the occasional paper. And speaking of solid inclusions, the webcam is better than average, so you can probably skip budgeting for an external webcam. Overall, if you are okay to spend more than $1,000 and want a stunning 14-inch business-oriented convertible with an included Smart Pen, the ThinkBook 14s Yoga is an excellent choice.
The HP Elite Dragonfly G3 may not be the most powerful laptop on the market, but it is extremely power efficient. The touchpad is larger, it includes new 12th Generation Intel processors, and it has a new 3:2 aspect ratio for a higher display and greater screen real estate. Another selling feature to consider is the Elite Dragonfly G3's 5MP webcam. We're entering the year 2024, and I can't believe that a 5MP camera is a notable feature at this point – I expected the laptop industry to be far ahead in this area by now, but anything greater than 720p appears to be a rare treat. As a cherry on top, the Elite Dragonfly G3 offers an impressive battery life, greatly exceeding the 10-hour runtime of the usual premium laptop. So, if you're a busy bee who frequently finds yourself video chatting with friends, family members, and colleagues while commuting, the Dragonfly G3 should be on your shortlist.
