Title: The Month I Couldn’t Fake It

What I do for a living is what I love. Or, what I loved, past tense, I should say.

I’m a content creator. I’m an online DJ. I live stream even when I don’t want to, and I make it hype. Because that’s my job. It didn’t used to be my job. It used to be fun, mixing tracks that hit hard that I loved to hear. And it turned out I was good at it. Really good! Everyone told me so. And I appreciated the love so much. I still do.

But there are days. So many days. Days when I’m down, tired, empty, … but everyone says I’m great, so I have to show up and be great. And it’s hard. But I do it.

Then one day, one week, let’s admit it, for a whole month… I didn’t show up. I mean I was ‘there’, I streamed, but I wasn’t on my game. I faltered. I flailed. And I fell. And guess what… my chat community picked me up. They didn’t complain and say I fell off or I was bad or anything like that. My chat family picked me up. And I cried. Happy tears for the first time in a long time.

And don’t worry. I came back. I found the love of streaming music again. There are lows and it’s OK not to show up when you’re down. Others who you think are pressuring you to perform are actually there to support you when you don’t. And that’s amazing.
