China Confronts Japan's Politicians in The East China Sea, Warns Over "Provocation"

China’s coastguard confronted Japanese lawmakers near the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea. Beijing has protested with Tokyo after the group of Japanese lawmakers visited the disputed island chain, denouncing the trip as “provocative”. A delegation led by Japan’s former Defence Minister Tomomi Inada visited the island where they inspected for three hours using drones to observe the area. While China has denounced Japan’s visit, Tokyo defended it saying that "The Senkaku are our sovereign territory and we need to go ashore for research." This marks the most recent escalation in Beijing’s clashes with its neighbours. In recent months, clashes have also escalated between China and the Philippines over the disputed South China Sea.
