How could AI transform education?

We can speculate that this might be around personalised experiences for students, leading to better, more timely or maybe quicker outcomes, perhaps with more convenience and more attention to wellbeing. For staff it might mean AI removing all mundane and repetitive tasks, allowing more focus on important tasks directly helping their students.

GPT-3 and ChatGPT have caused a step change in interest and a flurry of opinions. With AI now being able to write essays, solve maths problems and code programming tasks, now is the time to think about the approaches we might take and open discussions into what might be best for students and staff.

Do we see this as a cheating tool and start an unwinnable ‘arms race’ to ensure academic integrity whilst maintaining a traditional approach to assessment? This could adversely impact staff workloads and student wellbeing.

Do we see it as an opportunity to think constructively and improve student feedback and achievement? And affect real transformation of assessment. Where are the opportunities and concerns?
