One of the most popular surfing beaches on the Tweed Coast and Gold Coast is Duranbah Beach. Always the place to see vans lining the road with surfers either getting ready to go out or having just come back in from a surf. Duranbah Beach is the northern most New South Wales Beach on the beautiful Tweed Coast. It can be seen from Point Danger Lookout which also marks the New South Wales and Queensland Border and marks the border between the Gold Coast to the north and the Tweed Coast to the south.
On this walk we cross over the border twice as we begin in Tweed Heads, by the magnificent Tweed River, then to Duranbah Beach, climb up the stairs to Point Danger Lookout - from which we get amazing views of the northern and the southern coastlines - the Gold Coast and the Tweed Coast.
We then walk down the steep hill to Rainbow Bay which is very busy and full of people enjoying the hot and sunny day. We then make our way around to Snapper Rocks, Froggy Beach and then up the steep boardwalk back to Point Danger Lookout.
From there, we take a detour and see some amazing houses - including a new one that resembles a pair of UFOs. We get a good look at that one as we walk right past it before heading back to Duranbah via a huge grassy field high up on a hill with breath taking views of the Tweed Coast - including Fingal which is on the south side of the Tweed River.
From this beautiful green, grassy field, we walk down a steep road where of course there are cars and vans lining the road with surfers talking, relaxing, and doing their surfer thing. Finally we walk back towards the Tweed River where we get the thumbs up from one of the happy locals.
This walk travels along different paths than I have taken before in this location so you will get to see more of the beauty of this place.
