Gracemere - Marlborough Loop - Part 1: All the Gear, No Idea!

Our local Facebook Group "Backroad & Adventure Riding Rockhampton & Surrounds" went for a loop from Gracemere to Marlborough and back - clockwise around Goodedulla National Park. The ride included 2x KTM 690 Enduro R, Norden 901, DR650 and Goldie (Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE).

In part 1, we headed down the A4 (Capricorn Hwy) and turned off at Kalapa Black Mountain Rd. Things didn't look like I thought they should and we soon realised that the GPS had re-routed, but also had reversed the trip. With some local knowledge from "Roadmap" Rodney, we got back on track. 2 Garmin Zumo XT's (version 1 & 2), wouldn't play the game. I ended up just switching to the map and just checking every so often (after conferring with the aforementioned Roadmap first. Steve managed to get his to route sections as we went - so more successful than I (user issue I'm sure).

In addition to dodging birds, it was a little damp to start off with, but cleared up nicely by the time we reached Smith Road, where I took the opportunity to pack the wet weather gear up, and re-orientate myself again. It was a fun ride, and you hear some funny sounds from me as I go over bumps where the bike stays on the ground and my feet and bum are no longer connected to the bike, as well as a slippery bitumen section where the Motoz GPS tires had a mind of their own.

Part 2 will likely be the best part of the ride (in my opinion anyway). Nothing too difficult, but had a good section where we had to pay attention due to rocky sections, random sandy patches and small water washouts.
