I arrived in Chiang Rai, Thailand after traveling from Chiang Mai, and I had no idea what to expect. Often seen as the smaller, lesser-known sibling to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai surprised me with its unique attractions and rich history. One surprise that stood out was the breathtaking Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten).

I also stopped by one of the coolest breakfast cafés I’ve ever been to: Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House, Bistro & Bar. If you're looking for an incredible coffee and breakfast experience in Chiang Rai, look no further than Chivit Thamma. Nestled by the Kok River, this charming European-style café offers a cozy atmosphere, delicious homemade dishes, and some of the best coffee in town. From perfectly brewed lattes to hearty breakfast plates and freshly baked pastries, Chivit Thamma serves up a mouthwatering menu that will leave you wanting more. The lush garden, riverside views, and welcoming ambiance make it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a slow morning.

And one fascinating and unexpected find was the Opium Museum near the 'Golden Triangle,' where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. Walking through the museum, I discovered how opium shaped the economy, culture, and even politics of Northern Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. The transformation from illicit trade to a booming coffee industry is a story of resilience and change. If you’re interested in history, culture, and unique travel experiences, this is a must-visit spot in Chiang Rai.
