Charles and Kira Johnson were excited to welcome a second son into their family. They went to the hospital for a routine c-section, but their story took a tragic turn. Kira died hours after giving birth to their son, Langston. Later, Johnson learned that she had been bleeding internally for more than 10 hours.

Charles decided to share Kira’s story publicly and it would become the catalyst for a maternal health revolution in the United States. Charles started his foundation, 4Kira4Moms, in Kira’s honor and now works tirelessly for improved maternal healthcare. He advocates for families who have suffered from careless and preventable negligence related to childbirth and pregnancy.
