In the late 18th and early 19th centuries created a chaotic period globally, during which the transatlantic slave trade continued to flourish. While the focus is often on the African slave trade carried out by European colonial powers, it is essential to recognize the existence of the white slave trade. This trade involved the transportation of around 450,000 African slaves to the British, French, and Spanish colonies that would later become the United States and the Caribbean. Brazil received nearly 5 million slaves, while the remaining were sent to Spanish colonies in South America. Slavery persists worldwide today, although it is often overlooked. Prior to the American Civil War, the United States fought against the white slave trade, combating the actions of the Barbary Pirates. Exploring this lesser-known aspect of history reveals intriguing questions about the white slave trade's existence, the Barbary Pirates, the consequences of American intervention, and the subsequent implications.
