Bentwood Furniture of Michael Thonet and Samuel Gragg

Описание к видео Bentwood Furniture of Michael Thonet and Samuel Gragg

A historical review of the discoveries of Michael Thonet and Samuel Gragg who both steamed and bent wood into flexible cafe chairs. The furniture was created by steaming the wood and then bending it and let it harden into curved shapes and patterns. Samuel Gragg (1796-1871) created the Elastic Chair in Boston. Michael Thonet ((1772-1855) created his own factory in Germany creating chairs that once graced every ice cream parlor worldwide. Thonet and Gragg both used this technique to produce rocking chairs, cafe chairs, and other light furniture.

The video is tribute to those woodworkers who created some of the first modern furniture.
