তিন বছর, কেউ কেউ তার চেয়েও বেশি সময় ধরে অপেক্ষায় আছেন—পরিবারের সঙ্গে এক ছাদের নিচে বসার দিনটির জন্য। কিন্তু আপাতত বাংলাদেশিদের জন্য যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের অভিবাসন ভিসা কার্যক্রম স্থগিত থাকায়, সেই অপেক্ষা আরও দীর্ঘ ও অনিশ্চিত হয়ে পড়েছে। ভিসার এই অনিশ্চয়তা অনেকের জীবনে নানা পরিকল্পনা থামিয়ে দিয়েছে। কবে পরিস্থিতি স্বাভাবিক হবে, তার কোনো স্পষ্ট সময়সীমা নেই। ফলে চাপ, উৎকণ্ঠা এবং উদ্বেগ ক্রমেই বাড়ছে।

ঠিক এমনই একজন হলেন বাকের মজুমদার—আমরা নিরাপত্তার কারণে এই প্রতিবেদনে তার ছদ্মনাম ব্যবহার করেছি। তিন দশকেরও বেশি সময় ধরে তিনি যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বসবাস করছেন। তিনি বিবিসি বাংলা-কে বলেছেন, ১৯৯৩ সালে তিনি বাংলাদেশ থেকে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে পাড়ি জমান। প্রথমে তিনি পেশাগত কাজে গিয়েছিলেন, কিন্তু পরের বছরই রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয়, বা পলিটিক্যাল অ্যাসাইলাম প্রার্থনা করেন। এটি পাওয়ার জন্য তার আরও বছরখানেক সময় লেগে যায়।

For three years, some have been waiting longer—for the day they can sit under the same roof with their families. But with the US immigration visa process currently suspended for Bangladeshis, the wait has become even longer and more uncertain. This uncertainty over visas has put many plans on hold. There is no clear timeline for when things will return to normal. As a result, stress, anxiety, and worry are mounting.

One such person is Baker Majumdar—we have used his pseudonym in this report for security reasons. He has lived in the United States for more than three decades. He told BBC Bangla that he migrated to the United States from Bangladesh in 1993. He initially went for professional work, but the following year he applied for political asylum. It took him another year to receive it.
