Gigafactory Texas on 13 May 2021! This is where the Cyber Truck and Model Y will be built!
Another milestone day at Giga Texas! I was given information by a reliable on-site source that late last evening, around 8:00 CDT or so, the first test casting was completed by Giga Press #1! This was a Model Y rear casting. I tried to get photos and a long video of the casting area today, but could only see the press was operational, but I did not get a photo of the actual casting. Nevertheless, a big milestone for Giga Texas!
In this video, we review approximate sizes (in acres) of various work sites around the original 280-acre phase I construction site for the main building. Added together, a total of about 987 acres (or about 400 hectares) of land are now under some form of construction at Giga Texas. This is about 40% of the total land area owned by Tesla.

Here are the highlights from today's video:
The large water detention pond at the south end of the foundation is being filled in on the entire eastern half. It appears that part of the plan change is to join a smaller part of the original pond with the original pond just to the south, and this allows for more roadway and/or parking between the building and the new water detention pond. Also, preparations for laying gravel on the areas that appear to be roads heading under the south bridge are being made, along with more pipe installation and general land grading and preparation.
The work across the road shows the road from under the bridge reaching all the way west to Hwy 973, and this road is elevated above the flood plain with several areas having the corrugated storm pipe buried underneath to allow water flow form the north to the south. The large foundation work continues, now nearly at the northern-most point, with a lot of aggregate deliveries today.
The east side battery cathode plant foundation work continues, including more land preparation widening it to the west and geotextile membrane installation on the east with more fill dirt. It appears efforts continue to level the grade across this area. GeoPier work continues as well.
The northeast clearing area is rumored to be an extension of Harold Green road, turning to the north and eventually heading about a mile and a half north to meet up with Hwy 969 for a third major access point to the factory.
The martin Marietta plant appears to be in the early stages of demolition as part of the relocation effort. A lot of the area has broken up concrete and what appears to be efforts to remove some of the large waste piles just to the north of the facility.
Just north of the old plant building, the “pond” is looking more and more like a landfill area, with membranes lining the walls, and a central drainage pipe on the floor running to an outlet pipe at the north. Perhaps this will eventually be filled and then covered with a parking area or other structure?
The new main entrance off SH-130 continues to have work on the land area, including a new trench running down the middle of the area.
At the casting machine area, we see the efforts to test Giga Press #1 (and have heard the first test casting was completed yesterday evening). Ingots of aluminum are on several trailers, being unloaded and stacked in the area between the casting and paint shop structures.
The central big excavation pit now has 11 of the 12 footings poured in concrete and now very tall column bases are being installed, likely to allow the installation of the nearby concrete water vault system. Excavations around the footings further imply this installation is coming soon.
