Ladysmith Black Mambazo - Amazing Grace (Official Music Video)

This is the official music video of Amazing Grace performed by Grammy Award-winning group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

The legendary isicathamiya group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, puts its own spin on the age-old classic, Amazing Grace. The song is from their 1988 album, Journey to The World, their most high-profile album at that time. The group released it fresh from its participation on Paul Simon’s Graceland album and being asked to appear on Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker film.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo joined a stellar list of musicians who covered the song that includes queen of soul, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Andrea Bocelli, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion among many others. The group dug deep into its traditional gospel roots to bring to life its own rendition of the beloved hymn through its world-renowned ability to harmonize. Oh, what a sweet sound it is.

Amazing grace was written by former slave trader, John Newton, following a near-death experience that saw him convert to Christianity. He wrote the song as a testament of God’s immense grace and his deliverance from the life he led prior. This is evident in the beginning of the song which says -
“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind but now I see”
