The R107 Mercedes SL cemented the model’s reputation as the definitive European GT, but come the late 1980s, the Porsche 928 and BMW 8-Series were closing in and the Jaguar XJS had finally got its act together. To stay ahead of the game, Mercedes launched the R129 SL in 1989. Sporting modern Bruno Sacco design, a plethora of new engines - including a monstrous V12! - and advanced technology including an automatic rollover bar, the R129 was Mercedes Benz flexing its technical muscle.
