Exploring the New Angkor International Airport I Gateway to Siem Reap I Cambodia Travel Vlog

On October 16, 2023, Cambodia celebrated the grand opening of its new Airport at Siem Reap. Famous of its iconic Angkor Wat Archaeological park, Siem Reap attracts tourists from all over the world.
The decision to build a new airport which is 45 kilometers away from the city in place of the old Airport, which was merely 5 kilometers away the town was based on several factors like :
1. Allowing long-haul direct flights with larger airplanes to accommodate international travelers, particularly tourists from America and Europe;
2.Facilitating more domestic and international flights to meet the expected growth in tourism numbers;
3. Minimizing the impact of vibrations and air pollution on the Angkor Archaeological Park and Siem Reap town

The new airport is now the largest airport of the country with a capacity to accommodate an annual influx of 58,000 flights and 7 million passengers.

Built across 700 hectares (1,730 acres) of land, construction cost of this airport is approx $1.5 billion and it is largely funded by China (Yunnan Investment Holdings Ltd), under a 55-year build-operate-transfer deal.

I visited to this newly opened airport just within a month of it's opening in the month of Nov 2023. In this video I am giving a brief tour of this airport, which has all the amenities and duty shopping options. As it is a new airport, most of the facilities & stores were still in the process of opening.

One of the star attractions of the Airport is the 4-faced God's statues made of Bronze. You will see this as soon as you enter inside the airport after clearing the immigration and security
