The Cygnus Loop is a large supernova remnant in the Cygnus constellation. It is an emission nebula lying at a distance of about 2500 ly. The whole structure spans a region on sky six times the diameter of the full moon. With a diameter of about 135 light years, the structure is so huge that different parts of it are known by different names. The visual portion of the Cygnus Loop is known as the Veil Nebula.

There are a few major parts of the Veil Nebula:
Western Veil,
Eastern Veil,
Pickering's Triangle.
Other parts include NGC 6974, NGC 6979 and the Southeastern Knot.

The northeast region is a bright source of far-ultraviolet. Observations suggest that the progenitor star must have had a mass between 12 and 15 solar mass, which should have formed a neutron star after it's supernova. However, no stellar remnant have been identified yet.
