How we cook THE BEST PASTA while backpacking - Our favorite meal from our AT Thru Hike

Описание к видео How we cook THE BEST PASTA while backpacking - Our favorite meal from our AT Thru Hike

This was our favorite meal that we ate at least once every time we resupplied along the Appalachian Trail. To make it we used:

6 cups/1 Liter of water
1 box of pasta
2 Packs of Tuna
1 Pack Knorr Pesto Sauce
Grated Parmesan Cheese
Olive Oil

This meal was delicious but heavier than some of our other usual meals, so we would often eat it on our first night on trail after a resupply. We would sometimes swap the tuna out for salmon or any other protein, but the basics of cooking the pasta is what took us the longest to figure out. After quite a bit of trial and error and more soggy pasta than we would like to admit, we finally were able consistently make pasta that tasted just the way we'd make it back home! Having these hot meals to look forward to at the end of the day was a big help on our 2021 thru hike of the Appalachian Trail, and we ate this meal all the way from Georgia to Maine!

Our favorite alternative to this meal was to make couscous instead. Couscous only uses 1 cup of water so it boils MUCH faster, and it only takes 5 minutes to cook the couscous once the water is boiling. Also the uncooked couscous weights a fraction of what an uncooked box of pasta weighs. Most resupplies we would pack out two pasta meals and the rest would be couscous meals.
