Did you know there used to be a country between the United States and Canada? 🤯

In the early 1800s, a border dispute between the U.S. and British Canada gave birth to a short-lived nation known as the Republic of Indian Stream. Frustrated by double taxation and competing claims, local residents declared independence in 1832.

The U.S. recognized this small republic, but British Canada did not. Eventually, the people of Indian Stream voted to join the U.S., and the New Hampshire militia peacefully took control of the territory.

This is the forgotten story of a country that once existed in North America, right between two of today’s largest nations. 🌍
