How To Put On And Care For A Compression Garment

Описание к видео How To Put On And Care For A Compression Garment

If you have been treated for Breast Cancer you have probably had at least one or more lymph nodes removed. If this is the case then you are at risk of Lymphoedema. Not everyone that has lymph nodes removed will get Lymphoedema, but there are some circumstances in which Lymphoedema Therapists will recommend you wear a compression sleeve regardless of whether you have Lymphoedema or not. So if you have had Lymph Nodes removed, or you have existing Lymphoedema, then this video is for you!

In this video I teach you how to put on and take off your compression garment, as well as the wash and wear instructions to care for your compression garment. I go through the circumstances where it is recommended to wear a sleeve, even if you are only AT RISK of Lymphoedema.

There are different ways of getting a compression sleeve on and off, but in this video I use a SLIDER BAG and GLOVES. There are other devices that you can use to get a compression sleeve on and off, but in this video I use my 'go to' tools being the slider bag and gloves.

Compression Garments when worn on a daily basis need to be replaced every 6 months. I explain why it is easier to have two garments - one to wash, one to wear. Compression Garments will stretch to a degree when worn on a daily basis, so I discuss how often you should be washing your garment to maximise the compressive forces the sleeve is applying to your arm.

It is very important to care for your compression garment properly to optimise the effectiveness and lifespan of the garment. It is best to wash your garment every 2 days (if wearing the sleeve over consecutive days) for 2 main reasons - skin hygiene and restoring compressive forces to the sleeve. I will explain how sleeves can lose their effectiveness when not washed regularly enough, and why cleaning the sleeve is important for skin hygiene in the context of lymphoedema.
