Mara Turns a Drop Spindle

I'm not the only woodworker in the family. Mara makes spinning tools. This is one of them, the Drop Spindle. It is an ancient tool used for thousands of years before the invention of the spinning wheel for spinning wool or flax fiber into thread, That thread would then be plied into yarn. It's made of two parts, the whorl (the disk) and the shaft. This one has a cherry whorl and a birch shaft.
