When I just started in Talent Acquisition about six years ago, one of the first things that I had to do is figure out how to write a job description. This was a task that I never did before, knew how to do it or where to even start. I am sure that many of you have been in a similar situation, but for those who are just starting and are looking for help this video might be very helpful for you!

So what is today's video about? As the title suggests it's about how to write a job description that makes sense and is informative enough so that candidates can make an educated decision whether they want to apply or not.
That being said, writing that kind of a job description that will "knock it out of the part" is very difficult.

The first thing that you might not know about is that you can have two different types of job descriptions. The ones that you post on Job Boards and the ones that you need to have as a legal representation of someone's job. This you need in case your company gets audited for hiring practices.

There are four key areas to consider when making a job description and those are the following:
1. Position Title
2. Summary/Objective
3. Key Responsibilities
4. Qualifications

You need each of these to make a job description that will make candidates excited and want to apply even if they are not looking for a new job right now. The point is to make them think "Let's risk it all and apply".

One thing that you should not do is to make a job description too long, in this case, no one will read it fully. Do you know why? Because they will get bored.
I can guarantee that you have had the experience of reading or just looking at the job description and thinking to yourself "this is too long, why am I wasting my life on this?" Am I right?!

You don't need a long Job Description, the interview process is there to help candidates better understand the position and everything that that position entails. The description is there just to let them know what you are hiring and get their attention. Don't overthink your Job Descriptions and don't make it too complicated. The easier to understand more applications you will have.
