DIY Horse Shelter Using Sun Shade Sail

This is a DIY horse shelter I made using a shade sail I bought off of Amazon. Last year, I was boarding at a place that didn’t provide shelter in their horse pastures/paddocks. There weren’t even any trees for shade. It was really important for me to make sure my black horse had shelter from the sun, so I bought a really inexpensive shade sail and rigged it up right on his pen! It got the job done and he spent most of the hot hours of the day under it.

I got the 12x12x12 Triangle in Beige

As it was, I was going out to refresh his water almost daily, but just couldn’t leave him without shade in eastern North Carolina heat. It’s wild that you can even offer board without shelter from the elements, but when you move to a small town, you have limited options.
**currently boarding at a much nicer facility with high-quality care at a surprisingly lower price, although the one-hour drive is a drag, it’s so worth it!

***As a kid, I had a horse that was left in a paddock with no shade and a hot bucket of water at a boarding facility, and he had a really bad heat-stress incident, became anhydrotic and never fully recovered, so I take this issue seriously.
