Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park celebrates 100-year milestone

In 2022 we celebrate the centenary of Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park.

One hundred years ago, on this day the 16 May, Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair was proclaimed as a protected area in Tasmania. This natural wonder has grown to become an Australian icon and a favourite destination for visitors to experience the world’s largest temperate wilderness area.

This year the park will commemorate the past and inspire future generations to experience, connect with, and protect the park’s unique world heritage values. We also celebrate the deep connection of the Palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal peoples) with this land from the beginning of time.

So, from the beautiful snow-capped peaks of Cradle Mountain to Australia’s deepest freshwater lake at Lake St Clair, join us in celebrating this special place and to help protect it for the next 100 years. More info on the festivities will be released throughout the year.
