Описание к видео CHEERS WEBINAR: Industrial By-Products, Turning Challenges into Opportunities

In this webinar organized by CHEERS project we will discuss how the brewing industry can turn By-Product Waste into Opportunities

Project website: https://cheers-project.eu/

Food & Beverage industry in Europe produces 30 Mton/y of waste and 94 Mton of CO2 eq/y, which entails a high environmental impact. Likewise, large amounts of byproducts are generated during biorefining in this sector, which often end up as low-value market products (animal feed, compost, biogas) or landfilled. This also generates a high environmental impact and negatively affects human health quality and biodiversity on earth. Therefore, the deployment of innovative sustainable biorefineries in this specific sector is needed, and biotechnological solutions based on an effective prospecting and greater use of biological diversity, are the cornerstone to achieve this goal.

Horizon Europe project CHEERS set out in 2022 to revalorise under-utilised or waste by-streams from the brewing industry for subsequent conversion into five high value-added industrial bio-products through a biorefinery approach. This webinar will show the project's latest developments while focussing on how brewery industry by-products owns high potential for the development of high-added value products. Although open to the public, the main target audience are will be academy.

The Webinar will start by painting the picture with two expert talks:

Boosting sustainability: biotransformation of methane into cosmetic products, Andrés Felipe Torres (University of Valladolid, Institute of Sustainable processes)
Enhancing downstream processing for selective recovery and purification of target compounds from mixed volatile fatty acid fermentation broths, Jorge García (AINIA)

Then, a panel of experts will discuss about revalorisation of by-products into high-added value products, and also answer questions from the audience. The Webinar has the pleasure to count with:

Rubén Vera – MAHOU SAN MIGUEL
Jorge García- AINIA
Raúl Muñoz- University of Valladolid, Institute of Sustainable Processes
Amparo Jiménez Quero- CHALMERS
Alba Maria Ramos – NATAC
Patricia Zamora Bonachela – Aqualia

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 101060814.
