Visiting Dubai in a 3h layover

I had a 3h layover in Dubai while waiting for my connection flight. Instead of spending that time at the airport, I dared to leave the airport and drive to Dubai downtown to do 3 things: See the Burj Khalifa, visit the Dubai Mall and eat the local food. Did I make it back on time for my connecting flight though?
With Dubai being a massive hub for connections you might just want to do the same during your layover in this beautiful city.
