-------------------------------
This is the second lecture of the course “Ideas and Institutions of Ancient Indian Political Thought” delivered by Dr Abhay Kumar. In this lecture, Kumar talked about the beginning of history writing in the modern period in India during colonial rule. The colonial knowledge was later challenged by the nationalist historians but they also operated to an extent within the colonial framework. This is one of the reasons behind the rise of communalism as a modern phenomenon. In this 40-minute lecture, Kumar also talked about the sources of historian writing and their strengths and weaknesses. This lecture is useful for not only political science and history students but anyone interested in South Asian studies.
