The owls are spending more time in the box and they are showing a lot of Affection to each other.

The owls have been very active. We don't know for sure if the owls now are Lucy and Sid, but it is possible. Lately they have been spending a lot of time in the box at night.

Some Background Info:


When Sid First courted Lucy last season he was very young, and very vocal, chirping and stomping a lot of the time. Now we are seeing him more calm. Perhaps this is maturity, or maybe he is now calmer knowing he already caught his gal.

Even though owls mate for life we weren't sure if Lucy got the message. As we mentioned Sid was very young when they first mated back around January 2023. After the Owlets hatched, Sid continued to mate with her almost every time he brought food. After a while Lucy seemed quite annoyed by this, had some harsh words for him, essentially banning him from visiting for anything other than a quick food drop off. The Owlets never bonded with dad, and they would be very vocal about wanting him to go anytime he came inside the house. Because of this we were not sure the two would stay together. However, Sid continued to bring food throughout, and it looks as though all isforgiven.

Mom Lucy is larger than dad with a broader chest.  She is darker with more spots, but not nearly as dark, nor with as full coverage, as her female offspring.

Dad Sid is more slim and has a mostly white chest.  He had no darkness around his neck. He does have some spots on the sides of his chest. He is whiter than all of his offspring.

You may notice that the same owl looks large when on the left side of the Perch, and quite small on the right side. This is due to perspective caused by the position of the camera.
