Inside The $50 Million Bombardier Global 5500 Private Jet

0:00 - Intro
This is the Bombardier Global 5500. With a maximum speed of Mach 0.90 and a maximum range of 5,900 nautical miles, the Global 5500 is equipped with the patented Nuage seats, can be configured with up to 3 luxurious areas, and features what the company calls “the industry’s leading cockpit”. Today we’re going inside the Bombardier Global 5500 to talk about everything you need to know about this luxurious aircraft.

0:40 - Cabin
The cabin of the Bombardier Global 5500 is divided into three living areas, can be configured to typically seat 12 to 16, and is available with many custom options. The first area is the club suite, consisting of two pairs of standalone seats that face each other. The conference suite then is capable of providing seating for up to 6 people, and features a large table.
The jet features the new Nuage seat, which is said to be the first new seat architecture in business aviation in 30 years.
Along with the introduction of the Nuage seating, the Bombardier Global 5500 is equipped with Bombardier Pũr Air, a sophisticated air purification system available exclusively on Global aircraft. The environmental system also features turbo heating and cooling to quickly bring the cabin to a comfortable temperature.
The private suite is the final compartment of the Bombardier Global 5500, and can be customized depending on the use. The two seats can be made into a bed for longer flights. The suite can also be customized to feature two couches, one on each side, to maximize passenger capacity.
The Bombardier Global 5500 also features Rockwell Collins’s Venue cabin-management and entertainment system, upgraded with the ability to distribute ultra-high-definition 4K content throughout the cabin, a first for business jets. And finally there is the pressurized baggage compartment, which is accessible in flight.

3:26 - Cockpit
For pilots, the Bombardier Global 5500 offers a modern cockpit with an advanced avionics suite. Bombardier has equipped the Global 5500 with the Bombardier Vision flight deck, described by the company as “the industry’s leading cockpit”. The cockpit is designed to be clean, intuitive, and efficient for pilots, all in the pursuit to minimize the workload for the pilots, and offers high-definition displays and traditional W-shaped control yokes for pilots.
The heads-up display also gives pilots additional information when flying thanks to the expanded use of cameras and sensors in the aircraft's nose, which provides additional visibility and spatial awareness even in the most challenging of conditions.
The Bombardier Global 5500 features the Rockwell Collins combined vision system, which merges infrared enhanced vision and synthetic vision system imagery into a single conformal view. Other safety capabilities of the avionics system include advanced weather radar, airport moving maps, real-time traffic, and an improved terrain database.

4:39 - Engine and Performance
The Bombardier Global 5500 is powered by two rear-mounted Rolls-Royce BR710 Pearl engines. Each engine is capable of outputting up to 15,125 lbs of thrust. This results in a total thrust output of 30,250 lbs of thrust. This new type of engine has an average hourly fuel burn of 400 gallons or 1,500 liters, discharges 48% less smoke and 20% less nitrous oxide, is 2 decibels quieter, burns 7% less fuel, and has 9% more thrust than the old Globals.
The maximum speed will increase from Mach 0.89 to Mach 0.90, maximum cruise speed is 0.88, alongside a typical cruise speed of 0.85. The airplane also has longer legs than its predecessors: maximum range on the Global 5500 is 5,900 nautical miles or 11,000 kilometers.
The initial cruise altitude of the Bombardier Global 5500 is 41,000 feet or 12,500 meters, with a maximum operating altitude of 51,000 feet or 15,550 meters. In optimum conditions, the Bombardier Global 5500 boasts a respectable minimum take-off distance of 5,340 feet or 1,628 meters, a maximum rate of climb of 3,500 feet or 1,067 meters per minute, and a minimum landing distance of 2,207 feet or 673 meters, while the maximum payload is 7,139 lbs or 3,238 kg.

7:35 - Purchase and Charter Price
The base purchase price for a new Bombardier Global 5500 is $46 million before options, and the charter price ranges between $8,000 and $12,000 per hour. Naturally, prices will vary depending on availability, fuel prices, ground fees, and more.

7:51 - Operating Cost
While the annual fixed cost is roughly $750,000 to $900,000, the average hourly operating cost is estimated at $4,000 to $6,000.
