Sri Ganesar Alayam sits majestically in the heart of Kuala Lumpur within Kampong Pandan Indian settlement. In 1951, a Ganesar vigragam sculptured out of red brick was placed in the temple for public worship, parallel to the development of the settlement. In 1955, the temples first permanent structure was raised with the support of local Hindu community and the government. In 1962, the first Maha Kumbaabhishegam was conducted. Since that time the temple has been renovated many times and kumbaabhishegam conducted. The brahmotsavam and Vinayagar Chaturthi is conducted with 18 kaala yaaga pooja and special procession of Lord Ganesar on 11 different vaahanams during the brahmotsavam. Devotees fondly regard this temple as ‘Ganesarpuram’ or ‘Pillayar Patti’ of Malaysia.

Close to 90% of Hinds live in the Indian subcontinent but the effect of Hinduism can be seen all over the world. This series is a humble initiative to explore the spread of Hindu culture beyond the shores of India by presenting various Hindu temples throughout the world and taking the viewers through the history of each temple against a Carnatic music background.
