This video shows how to make a recipe with moong dal (green gram) and green onion. This video is made in Hindi with English subtitles.

Ingredients

Moong dal (Green gram lentils) - 1 Cup
Green Onion Leaves - 1 bunch
Cooking Oil - 2 tablespoons
Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
Ginger-garlic paste - 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
Red chili powder - one and half tablespoon
Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
Tomato - 2 (medium sized, finely chopped)
Salt - one and half tablespoons
Water - half cup


Method to Cook

Take a cup of moong dal to make this dish
Wash it well and keep it soaked in water for about half an hour
While dal gets soaked, clean the green onion leaves
Take a bunch of green onion leaves
Choose good leaves from it and wash them
Wash the onion leaves and cut them into such fine pieces
Separate the white onion part of it
Use this for tempering so that onion is not needed separately
For tempering, put two table spoons of oil in a hot pan
When the oil becomes hot, add 1 teaspoon cumin seeds to it
When cumin is tempered, then add the white part of the onion leaves which was cut
Now mix it and let it cook for some time
Now put one teaspoon ginger-garlic paste in it
Mix it and fry it till the rawness of ginger garlic and onion comes out
Add 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
Add one and half tablespoon red chili powder
Mix the spices well and fry them
Now put 1 teaspoon of garam masala and fry it well
Now put 2 medium sized tomatoes in it, finely chopped
Add salt according to taste or one and half table spoon salt
Now mix the spices and tomatoes well and cook it for about 3 to 5 minutes till the tomatoes melt
Cook it with a lid on low flame
Once tomatoes have cooked and become soft, mash it
As tomato has become soft, add the soaked moong dal to it
Add the moong dal in the masala and mix it well
Cook it with the lid on for about 2 minutes
Add the chopped onion leaves in it
Mix the onion leaves with lentils and spices
Put half a cup of water in it
Mix it and cook it covered for about 5 to 7 minutes
Water should have come down from the onion leaves too
Mix it one more time
Dal (lentils) is yet to cook properly
Cook it covered with lid for 5 minutes more so that the water also gets dry and it gets cooked well
Cook it on a low flame
Moong dal has cooked well
Dish is ready, transfer it to the serving dish
