A song-cycle from Inuit poems set by Canadian composer Harry Freedman (Henryk Frydmann) and sung by Lois Marshall. She commissioned these songs from Freedman to commemorate Canada's centennial in 1967. The folk poems were translated by the Danish explorer/anthropologist Knud Rasmussen. The title, Anerca, is the Inuit word for "soul," also the root of the verb "to breathe" or "to make poetry."
