Why Steward Health Care hospitals in Massachusetts are in financial trouble

Steward Health Care is more than 50 million dollars in debt, putting the future of their Massachusetts hospitals in jeopardy and putting the safety of their patients at risk. In recent months, Steward has failed to pay some rent payments and vendors, and least one hospital has had medical equipment repossessed as a result. In a recent report, the Boston Globe's Jessica Bartlett tells the story of a 39-year-old woman who died after giving birth at a Steward hospital when a potentially life-saving medical device wasn't available during emergency surgery. She joined Tori Bedford to discuss.
