Mike Rudd is an New Zealand-born musician, songwriter and producer based in Australia since the mid 60’s. He began his music career in New Zealand band Chants R&B. The band would relocate to Melbourne, Australia and break up in the mid 60’s. Then came a stint in The Party Machine that would play until 1969. The same year Mike formed progressive rock band Spectrum along with bassist Bill Putt with whom he would develop a long running association. The band would play and record until 1973, leaving 4 albums and several singles in their wake. Post Spectrum Mike and Bill would form Ariel and play together until 1977. Over the life of the band there have been 8 albums including live recordings and the same number of singles. During the 80’s Mike would form several groups and more recently play in a reformed Spectrum. Today my guest is still playing live and plans are in the works to record new material.
