We are officially fifty years in and Queen Yzbaal the New has taken the throne as we work to reclaim some of the empire’s former momentum. Research has slowed compared to Dido’s golden age, but the treasury is still healthy, giving us room to rebuild and make long-term plans.

This episode is all about consolidation and preparation. We lean into diplomacy, try to make good on lingering legacy ambitions, and focus on strengthening our cities and military. Exploration ramps up as we push hard to uncover enough of the map to satisfy a new ambition, while events continue to add texture and complications to dynasty life.

Along the way, we found a new city, unlock some very fun new toys including our first ballista and an African elephant (I think I will name him Stompy), and start lining up our troops on the borders for what feels like an unavoidable showdown. By the end of the episode, Carthage is in position to remind the Vandals that this whole empire thing is a brutal business.
