The National reports from the Paris AI summit, where French President Emmanuel Macron has urged Europe to step up in the AI race by simplifying regulation and investing more in data infrastructure.

The summit was launched a day after Macron announced France would invest €109 billion in AI in the coming years, including in a UAE-driven project to build a 1 gigawatt data centre.

Leaders including India’s Narendra Modi and US Vice President JD Vance are attending, joined by tech executives like Google CEO Sundar Pichai. US billionaire Elon Musk is among the notable absences.
