In 1907, boommen were an important part of sorting logs from the pond into the mill to be processed. At the time, about 400 people lived in North Bend, Washington. Most of the population was either in logging or worked for the sawmill. Logs were floated to market using the Cedar River. Finished lumber was transported using a branch line of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
