Mahayanam is a Malayalam feature film directed by Joshy and produced by C T Rajan, starring Mammootty, Seema, Jalaja and Mukesh.The film was both commercial and critical success.Mammootty won the 1989 Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor.After Mahayanam, Seema took a long break from acting. Later she made a comeback through Olympiyan Anthony Adam.The film was remade in Tamil as Paarai with R. Sarathkumar.
Mahayanam movie is all about Chandru(Mammooty) who is a truck driver a very rude and hard stoned person outside but internally a very soft-hearted person. Unfortunately his fellow mate(who was like a brother to him) meets with an accident and dies in the beginning of the movie. He takes the body to his mate's home and decides to fulfill his mate's last wish to build a home. The further developments after this make up the movie's story which is a well crafted one, revealing the goodness in a guy who seems to be outspoken and ruthless outside.
