Some things that you should know about this service:

1. If you want to report child pornography or child sexual abuse material or sexually explicit content such as rape/gang rape to the government, then you can make use of this national cyber crime reporting portal.

2. You can also report other types of cyber crimes such as mobile crimes, social media crimes, online financial frauds, ransomware, someone trying to hack your computer/electronic devices/social media accounts/email address, crypto currency and online cyber trafficking.

After reporting these cyber crimes to the government, you should also try your level best to remove the objectionable content from a particular website or social media website. Almost all websites have a report or flag option.

3. On the official portal of government of India, if you'd like to report a crime that is related to a woman or a child then you can choose to report anonymously. In such a case you are not required to provide any personal information to the government. However keep in mind that your complaint should be accurate and complete so that the authorities can take necessary action.

4. In case you are reporting other types of cyber crimes, then you are required to provide personal information like your name, phone number, email address etc. so that authorities can take appropriate action.

5. You are required to register with the portal using your Indian mobile number. When you register with your mobile number you will receive a one-time password on your phone. It is necessary to enter this OTP to authenticate your mobile number with the portal.

6. What type of information would be considered as evidence while filing my complaint related to cyber crime?

Credit card receipt
Bank statement
Envelope (if received a letter or item through mail or courier)
Brochure/Pamphlet
Online money transfer receipt
Copy of email
URL of webpage
Chat transcripts
Suspect mobile number screenshot
Videos
Images
Any other kind of document that you think is related to your complaint

7. If you try to lodge a false complaint against a particular person or an organisation, then appropriate penal action as per IPC will be taken against you.

8. When you lodge a complaint with the portal you will receive a unique acknowledgement number using which you can track the progress of your complaint by logging in into the portal.
