A wildfire has destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and up to 80 other structures on the North Rim, including cabins and park facilities.

The National Park Service is facing criticism for not fighting the blaze more aggressively from the outset.

The North Rim will remain closed for the rest of the 2025 season, with trails and campgrounds shut until further notice.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has called for an independent investigation into the federal response.

The fire was sparked by lightning on July 4.
