This beginners tutorial will show you how to do a Right Facing Square Knot.

Step 1: Start with two cords folded in half and attached to a dowel (see my other videos for instructions on how to attach cord to a dowel). You will now have 4x individual hanging cords.
Step 2: Take hold of the two outside cords.
Step 3: Cross the right hand cord over the two middle cords and behind the left hand cord, creating a ‘number 4’ shape.
Step 4: Pass the left hand cord under the right hand cord, behind the two middle cords and pull it through the loop to the right.
Step 5: Pull both the right and left hand cords (while pulling down on the middle cords) to tighten.
Step 6: Repeat on the left.
Step 7: Tighten the knot by pulling the outside cords while holding the middle ones straight.
Step 8: You can see this is a right facing square knot because the vertical ‘bump’ is on the right hand side.
